The Nursing Associate is a registered practitioner role that confers eligibility as a statutorily regulated profession onto the NMC register. It is a stand-alone role that is intended to enable registered nurses to focus on more complex clinical duties.
The standards for proficiency are set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). The broad purpose of the occupation is to provide care for people of all ages and from different backgrounds, cultures and beliefs. Nursing associates may provide care for a range of people who have mental, physical, cognitive and behavioural care needs.
This is a work-based higher apprenticeship programme that allows you to combine protected learning opportunities in the workplace with a university learning environment whilst at the same time studying for a foundation degree. You will develop a knowledge and understanding of the role of the Nursing Associate within a multi-disciplinary team and in doing so develop the proficiency to promote evidence-based practice and professional nursing care. Completion of this programme leads to registration as an Associate Nurse on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register.
This programme is delivered via a block pattern of 6 one-week blocks in each year of study. The remainder of the learning time is spent in clinical practice and on clinical placements to ensure that you gain a wider base of relevant clinical experience.
